The Civil Engineer will serve as a Construction Project Engineer, applying advanced knowledge of engineering principles to manage multiple active construction projects from inception to completion. This role requires a proactive approach to overseeing diverse projects varying in complexity and scope, ensuring technical compliance, and meeting project deadlines.


Duties

As the Civil Engineer, responsibilities will include:

  • Managing construction projects, ensuring compliance with engineering principles and standards.
  • Overseeing project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Interpreting and applying advanced engineering theories, concepts, and methodologies.
  • Leading project reviews and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical challenges.
  • Preparing technical reports, plans, and specifications in alignment with industry standards.
  • Communicating project updates and technical details effectively to stakeholders, including contractors and regulatory agencies.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship: Required.
  • Selective Service Registration: Mandatory for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Education Requirement: A degree in professional engineering from a program accredited by ABET or equivalent qualification as outlined below.
  • Security Clearance: Successful completion of a security investigation.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering:
    • Must include advanced coursework in areas such as calculus, physics, and five of the following engineering sciences:
      • Statics, dynamics
      • Strength of materials
      • Fluid mechanics, hydraulics
      • Thermodynamics
      • Electrical fields and circuits
      • Properties of materials
      • Other fundamental engineering sciences
  2. Combination of Education and Experience:
    • College-level education, training, or technical experience that demonstrates:
      • In-depth knowledge of physical and mathematical sciences.
      • Strong theoretical and practical understanding of engineering principles.

Alternative Qualification Standards:

Candidates can qualify through one of the following:

  • Professional Registration or Licensure:
    • Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
    • Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Written Test:
    • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
  • Specified Academic Courses:
    • 60 semester hours of physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences coursework.
  • Related Curriculum:
    • Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific field with at least one year of professional engineering experience.

Specialized Experience Requirements

To qualify for this position at the I Band level:

  • Applicants must demonstrate at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the H Band (FG/GS-10/11/12).
  • Examples of specialized experience:
    • Communicating technical engineering information to diverse audiences.
    • Applying engineering concepts to oversee construction projects.
    • Leading teams in resolving technical issues.
